Contemplation
by TheeMahn on Sep.11, 2011, under Linux, Ubuntu, Ultimate Edition
I wrote a story to our admin, let me be bold in saying my intentions while pure have “Contemplated” hanging up at least one of my jobs. This may grab a few attentive learners. The job I wish to hang up is distro writing. I do not want you to think I am selling you out, I see many an issue & am tired of fixing such said issues. The amount of said issues have plagued me to the point where I not only dislike my job, but other jobs I possess. Sure, I am a programmer & have preached automation of said activities.
I feel my talent would to be best to spend it on automation of one in the same. While most will view this a huge error in my aspect. Rest of assured I shine when allowing me to do as devised comes w/o question. Contemplation is the topic, however stay tuned. Sorry to spew off at the head. I would not have said what I have if it does not come without cause. Let me be blunt, I have tried to not only inform others of issues, but to tell them how to fix them and greeted with cynicism. Hmm, why would I want to quit?

My Compliments, Sir, on the quality of your work, and as a USN retiree, I understand fully the attention to detail mentioned earlier.
I would think that it’s weariness that makes the villian of you. Again, I sympathize.
I will not quibble over issues of opinion….I’ve learned to know and respect when someone knows more than I.
However, please do not feel that you, and your work, are not gratefully appreciated.

Well, I would really hate to see my favorite distro go away, but I would much rather loose U.E. than have you unhappy at what you are doing. It’s been great using U.E. over the last few years but you need to do what make the most sense for you. What ever you decide… Thanks for all the hard work, time, and effort that you have put into U.E. that has made it such a joy to use and recommend to others for the last few years. Praying for you.

TheeMahn, I feel your pain with regard to trying to fix someone else’s mess and believe you me if I had the skills to automate the process where my only interaction with the whole process would be to check its accuracy I would. When I look to your completed work and judge your skills I see a very talented individual that I would follow without questioning your judgment. Bottom line, we all have jobs that we must do and some are enjoyable and some not so much and if we can use the technology that is at our fingertips to automate those not so much liked jobs then it is both wise and practical to do so as the end result would be that our enjoyable jobs get the best we have to offer and in your case everyone who looks to the best OS will profit. If others don’t see how everyone could and would be better from this then their shortsighted. As long as the job gets done accurately it should not really matter whether a living person does it or its done by automation.

TheeMahn your feelings are understandable.
Coming from engineering stand point, I have been dealt the same aggravating and narrow points of views from others.
And yes it is disappointing that people have such singular minded point of view.
But some times it is that road the we take to enlightenment, wild others do not see the possibilities.
And went others see those point of extraordinary views, that come to life in there eyes.
To see that there are other possibilities, and simpler ones at that, doesn’t that just make your day.
I guess, well it is hard to be a teacher, but it is even harder being an exceptional teacher or mentor.
Life is hard enough being here, but it is gratifying to others see your point of view on live.
Wish you the best on ether possible out come.
But like I always say “smile it gets wurst”.
Just think what is best for you, and do your best in live.
There is so much more that we can do.
LOTT.

Sir, I sympathize with you, sincerely. While most of the things you do go unnoticed, what is seen is extraordinary. I know the weight that rests upon your shoulders. My workdays have grown from 8 hours to 12 hours ,while my girlfriend of 5 years slowly shows signs of her former self. There are times I want to walk away from it all. But I know that wouldn’t be fair to her. Having to deal with what you have been through this past year, I don’t believe I could have made it this far. Sometimes we all need more time to enjoy the good things in life. I hope you come to the decision that is best for you. I feel that most of us in the community are behind whatever decide. But know that you are truly appreciated.

There always comes a time in ones life where there are choices to be made. You should make the choice that is right for you . Wish you all the best regardless of the outcome . Ultimate Edition has been the overall best Linux distro in my opinion and I thank you for your devotion ,it’s what made U.E. so good.
So, thank you , for giving us all so much and asking for so little in return. That being said , at the end of the day you must do what is right for you.

TheeMahn I would like you to know that thanks to you and UE. I was able to convert alot of Windoze users and stay with linux. I know you have had alot of pressure and criticism but in my opinion, you sir will be missed. Some might say UE was not perfect but you did such a great job in putting it together and your troubleshooting fixed any issues I ever had. UE was the only distro I found to cover all the bases. Thank you and I wish you the best in any decision you make. Happiness is always the best way to go (and alot less stress).

My deepest regards to you sir.
As mentioned above i’d rather loose UE than you being unhappy. UE is the best linux since mandrake 10.1– a full operating system.
Thank You for making UE a piece of art – a masterpiece from a maestro engineer.
Eventually the decision is yours. Maybe a certain level of credibility has not been granted to you but if it isnt even noticed then people should get up and see who Theemahn is and show respect in every way.
Thank You sir for your devotion and time.

These UE Forum members words say it all. The overwhelming majority are extremely grateful for your care and knowledge in providing us all with the very, very best distribution (and more) that there is. Your accomplishments are legend, now do what is best for yourself. Thanks Thee 🙂

TheeMahn thank you for making my re-introduction to Linux a very pleasant one. I have only started using it in the last couple of months and it has been a very pleasant one. The last time i tried linux was redhat in 2002 and a very unpleasant experience. Sadly i’m forced to continue to use microfart due to dirextx games. If it wasn’t for that i would use your distro full time. Your passion and care is very evident. Again thank you very much

…the best decisions are taken by the heart …not the reason …listen your feelings.

Thank all of you for not only understanding, but placing your point of view and kind comments. Meister and I had a bit of a chat and perhaps have came up with a solution that does not involve me losing more sleep and hair 😉
More on that later, thanks again.

OK, first let me say i understand your situation, and have “been there before”. Secondly you must choose the fight/job which you wish to continue. I have to say, if you took UE to a commercial level and made it profitable, while opening up the publics eyes to Linux, I think it would be very satisfying to both you and the community. But it’s your decision of course. Either way i appreciate all the time, effort, and lost sleep that you have put into UE. You have made Linux fun and easy for me to use again, Which is hard to do since Windoze has all the video games that i love native, but dual booting has never been so easy as it is with UE. I look forward to hearing your announcement of the decision you have made. Thanks, linuxnut69, Santa FE

as I am a programmer myself I know how uncredited the most effort is, but it never stoppt me of coming along with terms.
UE was the best distribution I ever worked with so it is rather sad loosing it.
This year may have been harsh to you. I know that, because one of the to girlfriends I lost died of brest cancer, too. Every lost beloved one take a part of one with them and so this change more rapidly. Most peolpe won’t come around. The once who do, go back to their basics at first to see what’s left of them. I’ve been there, too, as a human being, a scientist and a programmer. I know that it will raise your strength and guide you to new frontiers. If retiring here will help you coming over that critisism, so be it.
Since 2007 I spread UE to every one I knew and cured many peoples microsoft infected equipment. They are quiet thankful for your work. I never heard any complains of them again.
Know that you made so many people happy over the years and that they will feel pretty sad when UE won’t evolve along.

That is pretty impressive, your position as well as outlook on life. I was on facebook about a month ago, a place I typically avoid.
I had a fella introduce himself and give me a brief story that was astounding to me. He informed me that his son was in the Air Force in Computer Intelligence. He sent his son a copy of UE 2.3 which he handed a copy to his instructor. His instructor informed him it was the most comprehensive O/S he had ever seen. Quite an endorsement, when seen through my eyes. It is their job to have vast understanding in that department.
It is the little things like that that used to drive me to continue work and progression. Falling behind in my work due to situations beyond my control and grabbing shirt tails has had a traumatic and exponential effect. We as a team are working hard at putting all of this behind us.
