Ultimate Edition 2.4 Work in progress…

by on Oct.27, 2009, under Linux, Ubuntu, Ultimate Edition

Yes, I have been building Ultimate Edition 2.4; it is based on Ubuntu Karmic Koala 9.10. I am running it as a matter of fact. It was built off a daily build of 9.10. The final release of Ultimate Edition 2.4 will be re-built off a final of Karmic. This is just a screencast to get the juices flowing. It is lightning fast especially where booting is concerned. I have also developed a Ultimate Edition 2.4 theme pack (2.4.5), unreleased to the public currently. The theme pack will install in Ubuntu Karmic as I am doing in the screencast below on a raw copy of Karmic in a virtual machine.

Ultimate Edition 2.4 Theme pack (2.4.5):

  • 4 GTK2 Themes
  • 2 Usplash’s x86 / x64 (autodetects architecture)
  • 4 Amarok Themes
  • 13 Wallpapers
  • Cairo clock theme (optional)
  • 6 Compiz cubecaps
  • 1 Skydome
  • 1 Xsplash (karmic+ based distros)
  • 4 Emerald themes
  • 1 TTF font
  • 2 GDM Themes (currently only in Jaunty or below)
  • 1 Icon theme (~15,000 icons)
  • 1 Sound theme

All is subject to change before final release. The default wallpaper changes color depending on time of day. This theme pack will be pre-installed in Ultimate Edition 2.4 when released. True work for me begins in 2 days. Just trying to make sure you ladies and gents don’t think I am screwing off over here 😉 Sorry about the choppiness in the beginning of the video I am no longer running 2 video cards.

I have a build of UE 2.4 I have tested on multiple machines and works perfect minus the bugs Karmic got released with. One is a kernel issue and I get a crash in the task area. I could release it; it does work perfectly minus that, it is not a showstopper. That bug has been reported over 200 times, and nothing has been done. Sometimes perfection is a meal best served warm. I love that I do not push for a “release” date. This allows me to take my time and make sure we at least have a bug free environment. I am not going to kid you, I was really tempted to release it. I do not want our users thinking it is my fault. I do my best to ensure this to not be the case. Please be patient with me. It takes time to hone perfection.

    What’s Good

i would like to say great job with UE!!! I’m new to UE so learning the ropes right now. I have to say its great to see one who take such pride in what they do. Especially releasing such well worked out versions the industry big boys could learn a lot from you. As a systems builder the Driver database is fantastic!
was wondering your thoughts on an UE Complete version
to include the UbuntuStudio distro max out UE Style I’m a Media Producer so was looking to build a version in that direction, oh No disrespect intended was just looking to bring your great ideas to the artistic community, Why should gamers have all the fun!! Anyway was looking for suggestion from u as to the best way to make this a reality. i have tried the usual methods of transforming UE and there all buggy.

    thanks

Hello Mr Mann….I have no disrespect for what soever…however…this 2.4 is disapionting. 2.3 is much more refined. This one here is as it is old and new. Some of it does not work too well. As i said…I respect you…I am only a user of these products and I know what works for me. You are Great…and I only can wish I could do these things with a computer. I try hard to do the tricks and manipulations as you do and creat these OS. I was wondering…if you can tell me the correct Java to use on here? i have tried almost everything. i always have a problem with the Java on Ubuntu. i tried Freespire and it seems to have everything. i like the way you have set these OS up. I will tell you…in my experience..I liked 2.3 more . Just my opinion. i hope you are feeling well…those rockin beats comming. : )

Well no matter how much I would want to include sun java in your O/S, yes I call it your O/S. I do try and build it with you in mind. Sun has copy-written Java as well as flash, still with me? I include icedtea a opensource version of java for example. If you want answers, visit Ultamatix it will make or break you. When I am done with Ultamatix will only make you. I wish I could show you what I have recently written. The UE team is putting it on the burner until complete. It may make it in UE 2.5, yes I am running it 😉 The admin may have their hands full with the new beast. Software you will not find elsewhere, if they say yes good.

I really wish I could elaborate on that.

Oh,,i meant keep those rockin beats comming….it looked funny…
