Sourceforge & IRC
by TheeMahn on Jun.23, 2010, under Hosting, Linux, Ultimate Edition
Sourceforge has interviewed me and dropped a post on their blogs homepage. Thanks, Lee Schlesinger & Sourceforge.
I have had many suggestions for setting Ultimate Edition on IRC. That said…
IRC or Internet Relay Chat has been around for years, actually around before instant messaging services. This has been set up as an option to get instant answers. Who will be there to help you?
Who knows. It will depend on what time of day it is. At first the amount of users will be low. Users are encouraged to help other users. I as well as other Admin can not be there 24 / 7. Do we promise to answer everything? No. We certainly can’t do that – though we will try. In most cases you will be redirected to a possible solution. You can just watch or “idle”, but if you participate, help please don’t hinder the work going on there.
I have been trying to hold off on this post. We may soon have our own IRC network. Before I commit resources, I would like to see if it is worth investing the time & money. This will allow you to chat with Ultimate Edition devs & other UE users. We may not stay here, but I want to give all users the chance to see what it is all about. I am providing 2 options to get there, KVirc is an IRC client built into virtually all Ultimate Editions. You are not limited to using just KVirc, there is Xchat, and many others. Mirc for you windows users. If you wish to learn about IRC, information overkill can be read here. Specific Information on freenode here.
Option #1:
Open your terminal (Applications >> Accessories >> Terminal) & paste the following.
kvirc irc://irc.freenode.org/UltimateEdition
Option #2:
Web based chat.
Hopefully by Ultimate Edition’s 2.8 final release it will be defaulted, preset & fully customized UE style. I hope to catch you on there.

Bien TheeMahn!
Good TheeMahn!
Felicitaciones por tus logros y el reconocimiento de tus esfuerzos en el sitio de SourceForge. Yo creo que hablo por todos al decir que te deseamos lo mejor, hombre!
Congratulations for your achievements and the recognition of your hard work in the SourceForge’s site. I think I talk for everyone by saying we wish you the best, man!
Y acerca del IRC, es realmente bueno tener un “lugar en vivo” donde contactarte a ti y a otros administradores/usuarios.
And about the IRC, it is really good having a “live place” where to reach you and other admin/users.
Mi preferencia es irssi, un cliente de irc basado en terminal facil de usar. En combinacion con Yakuake me permite acceder el irc en cualquier momento mientras continuo haciendo otras cosas. Es solo mi humilde punto de vista.
My choice is irssi, an easy to use terminal based irc client. In combination with Yakuake allows me to reach the irc anytime while doing anything else. Just my humble point of view.
Saludos y felicitaciones una vez mas!
Greetings and congratulations again!

hI THEEMAHN,
I am a fairly new user to linux,and i have put U.E 2.7 64bit inside VMware.
On start up i had problems with the login, then when i used the screen keyboard all was okay until the desktop then it froze out completely..every time i tried…i was disapointed.
So instead i installed it of the dvd drive not the virtual one inside windows……Oh hail you and all the rest of the U.E team…….
What a beautifull linux you all have made,i can so much appreciate the time and effort spent, thank you very much for this wonderfull linux…you have converted me lol
Take care theemahn
