Ultimate Edition 2.8 gone gold?
by TheeMahn on Oct.12, 2010, under Linux, Ubuntu, Ultimate Edition
I do not want to get your hopes up, but I have finished both the x86 (32 bit) and 64 bit versions of Ultimate Edition 2.8. I have uploaded both and are being ran through the ringers by admin / testers. This will be a final release based on Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat as soon as they give me the go ahead. It only takes 8 minutes a piece to transfer them to Sourceforge. If errors are found on my department, I will re-build & re-upload it as many times as necessary until perfection is met. This is why I said don’t get your hopes up. I just wanted to give everyone a heads up it may be coming quite soon.
It will be a few days at best for testing, bug reporting, and feedback. Could be as early as Friday; a best case scenario. Cross your fingers & stay tuned.

TheeMan,
I have a quick question.
I love UE, and love Linux in general. I just loaded ubuntu 10.10 (to play) is there a way to just add your repository, or even better to “upgrade” to 2.8? Either way, thank you for all of your hard work and time!
October 13th, 2010 on 9:09 pm
I see the repository how to, I knew that. duh!! but the “upgrade” or “convert” to UE 2.8 from Ubuntu 10.10 would be amazing.

I tested maveric meerkat and it’s awesome, now i know that this ultimate edition will be outstanding.

Good news I’m looking forward to testing it. I tried the Super OS based on the MM 10.10 which is a little boring but my webcam worked out of the box and seemed to run pretty snappy. I like the integrity aspect of getting it right before putting it out for the public consumption. Keep up the great work guys! jc in China

Well, I have already moved to UE 2.8, and my first impression is that I should moved before at least to another versio. I got my mouth wide open and I will need surgery in order to close it down as I find this version as the fastes one I have ever seen in my short life using ubuntu.
Thank you very much, TheeMahnn… That’s why you are The Man!

Hello,
realy appreciate your work!
Do you need bandwidth for your upcoming release? I got a free 100MBit server … just send an email to funkcentral@gmail.com
October 15th, 2010 on 2:20 am
We have a cloud based hosting, I seen 173 GB sent out in one day for the testers, I ripped it down. The math did not work, someone snitched / shared. It will not be the final product. We are I believe 14 gigabit overall, 6 servers. I have 0 issues in bandwidth, I can send the final release in 8 minutes to Sourceforge. I am uploading something that will rock your world, no UE 2.8 is delayed. I hope you feel as I do. I will write a post about it. I do not feel Ultimate Edition 2.8 is there yet. I am here to help ppl. Please bare with me.

Take your time. Impatient people get unfinished/poor quality products. I’m happy waiting for you to be satisfied with 2.8. Been playing with 10.10, very impressed with this distro. UE I am sure will “blow us away”
May you be Blessed!

I use your ultimate edition as my main os and offer it to my clients as a alternative to windows.
I can say I prefure it 100 to 1 over any windows my self. You do great work, I am a huge fan.
I did read about your troubles with your GF/Wife. I hope she’s doing better. Our hearts and prayers go out to you.
I use the 10.1 LTS and just update that to 10.10 2.6.35.22 kernel. Works like a charm.
Keep up the good work, I will donate as I can.

I am sorry for the delay, our admin have spoken and pointed out 6 bugs to me. I hope have been fixed and both have been re-uploaded. Awaiting approval. I am currently running UE 2.8 x64 and is in my opinion bulletproof. I am confident in the latest upload. I have began writing a web page for it.
Good things come to those who wait 😉

It is very easy to have patience when you are provided status updates the way you do. Take your time, it will be an awesome release when it arrives!

Dear TheeMahn:
I already installed the UE2.8 x64 in an HP DV-9000, and its works out-of-the-box. My Congratulations for the job done.
Question:
When I activate the restricted driver NVIDIA current version, all the graphical boot of the arth with the UE sun, went lost. By removing the nvidia restricted driver it appears again.
Is there any way to keep this amazing boot with the nvidia restricted driver ?
November 3rd, 2010 on 7:16 pm
I am sorry Nvidia is way behind at least open source wise. ATI dropped open source drivers, right after AMD bough ATI. NVidia needs to get on the ball. Tell NVidia to give me rights to shove their restricted drivers in our O/S, perhaps things would change. I do not personally care I want happy campers.

My son and I really like the 2.8 release of the gamers edition. Just wanted to ask TheeMahn, how is your girlfriend doing these days? I prayed for her for a while, I hope that it helped. Any questions or comments about my post, go to

She has both TB and cancer, they are unable to treat the cancer until she has kicked the TB. Thank the lucky stars she now has a medical card. She is in alot of pain and is virtually bed ridden, however she goes to see a cancer specialist I believe on the 9th. I am hoping for at least the pain part to change.
