You need restricted drivers. Go to System->Administration->Hardware Drivers and check the box to enable the restricted drivers for your NVIDIA card if the option is provided.

Can someone plz explain more clearly how to enable special effects ? The card is nv 8600GT and I cant get driver to work. Thx in advance

You are almost correct Ultimate Edition 2.6 x64 does, x86 has 2.6.32-21 only. It is my fault the kernel in x64 slipped through. I have big shoulders; I can admit when I made a mistake. You are once again correct there are 2 options select the second kernel from the list on each boot or –purge the 22 kernel. I am sorry fellas, I am not perfect.

Phil,
The kernel that ships with 2.6 is 2.6.32-22, it also has -21. If you remove 22 and use the -21 image you can get it to work. This is what I did as even following all the blacklist module threads didnt work.

Either way, awesome distro no matter what. Nice job Theemahn, Canonical should just hire you now and quit acting like biatches.

Somewhat disappointing that the NVIDIA drivers are not working on mt Acer Aspire 7520. I enabled the driver but it fails to work work with a kernal module error. I tried an update and Upgrade but no joy the nvidia-settings tool works but say the driver is not being used, but the “special” hardware utility says it is enabled ? really too bad I had just did the install over Fedora that too has issues with Nvidia. When are developers going to realize that lots of Linux folks have the low end laptops which seem to use Nvidia a lot.

On the other hand I have Kubuntu (lenny) installed on an external drive and the Nvidia driver work just file. Also I have eLive17 install and that works too.
