Ultimate Edition Server is now online

by on Oct.21, 2017, under Ultimate Edition

I probably should start by showing you the construction of the O/S:

I have set a Dynamic DNS to point to it:

None the less this is rolling out of my house. This is the JackHammer 😉

Installing Ultimate Edition 5.7 Server (excuse the 4K images, it was default):

While that is exciting, many, not all of the security issues melted away after installed. I still have work to do:

After installed webmin is there to control your server remotely same username & password you used to install it:

We are not final, however working that way. I do have some bad news at least for most of you. I am thinking about selling all my websites and quitting. I have neglected my wife and my family for greater than ten years due to building Operating Systems and programming. I intend to change that, one way or the other. Expect the largest change this website and the other 11 have ever seen.

The wife and I are discussing the outcome of repostorm.com. All of my software has been free, un-known the outcome there as it sits.

I probably should add, built in and yes it works…

I have a few behind the scenes apps to add for server stats, like I said we are on the cusp of perfection. I think I said that on facebook, not here.

I do want to point out that as a whole, you chewed better then 1/2 of my entire resources to serve you a single webpage. 16 cores is not sufficient, and I doubt 32 is. All of you are Beta-Testers, you just do not know it. 66,231 pageviews in less than 24 hours off my rig. There is no way I can maintain personally that kind of traffic. Not a record, not even close.

Mr. Breeg and I went to a Iron Maiden concert and there was 10,000 people there. We cripple that, not saying saying Iron Maiden is not awesome. The raw amount of people I seen there was humbling, blows my mind we see many times that a day. Now, that I am quiting will we? I was offered years ago $285,000 for http://ubuntusoftware.info/ Should have I taken it? Welcome back. We will find out, I have 11 additional sites, 2 will wait.

Had a co-worker straight up ask me if I was serious. I have been programming since I was 11. She could not believe it, all she has known. Yes, they are gone all but 2 websites. I may sell them too if they interfere with my life.

TheeMahn,

Red Hat in 1997 was a bit beyond my capabilities so I gave up rather quickly but one day it seemed time to get back on the horse, as it were. I got me a ThinkPad Z61p with the 1920×1200 screen and thought I should put on UE, back then at V.2.6, to try out all the different applications that were preinstalled. I assumed it would feel ponderous but it would only be temporary, after all. Well, of course it just flew even though the unit was maxed out with a mere 3 gigs of RAM. The desktop effects were just delightful and everyone I showed it to was amazed at what you had created. My ThinkPad that had been an old truck with Windows was now a race car!

There are lots of very nice distros but UE has always been special to me and undoubtedly to a great many others as well. A labor of love is always different from a mere product and I’m grateful for the OS and the inspiration that you have provided to others so that they might follow a passion of their own and give the world something special too. If this is now an obstacle to a happy life for you, do walk away. Ten years of dedication is a very grand gift indeed.

I’m not sure you won’t miss some of this because you obviously care a lot, so consider that you can do absolutely anything you want and whoever thinks it’s not enough does not even deserve a reply. You know, maybe just do LTS versions or whatever. Anyway, just a thought. Once again, thank you for this beautiful thing and whatever you do, I hope it works out splendidly! 🙂 (And maybe get a blog and tell us what you’re up to!)

I do love my wife & family. I work a second job, err primary job if you want to call it that. Minimally 40 hours a week, have worked 60 there. I still to this day will work 8 more on top of that & drag ass at my primary job. I concur with you as a long time user of UE, during 2.6 we had Cowboy on board to create graphics. We have lost great talent. I am not a Graphic artist for example. Sure I can Gimp it up, nowhere near that level. A wallpaper does not make a O/S. Internals are massive. I will give an example. I am unsure which programmer decided to move plymouth’s architecture by the same token I must learn. It is a massive compounded load on me. I just fix things and move on.

I will quit it is nothing against you or any other user. Priorities in my life have changed.

If quitting this will make you happier then that’s what I want you to do. It would be ungrateful for us to expect you to keep giving us this gift when working on it is making your life worse instead of better.

I just want to clarify that as a graphic designer myself, I can appreciate that Cowboy’s work is magnificent but at a deeper level, UE is still a beautiful thing to this day because it comes from passion and dedication. I’ll hang on to the last one for a long time because it’s something special – inspiring and uplifting.

        Be well, old boy. 🙂
