Sourceforge & IRC

by on Jun.23, 2010, under Hosting, Linux, Ultimate Edition

Sourceforge has interviewed me and dropped a post on their blogs homepage. Thanks, Lee Schlesinger & Sourceforge.

I have had many suggestions for setting Ultimate Edition on IRC. That said…

IRC or Internet Relay Chat has been around for years, actually around before instant messaging services. This has been set up as an option to get instant answers. Who will be there to help you?
Who knows. It will depend on what time of day it is. At first the amount of users will be low. Users are encouraged to help other users. I as well as other Admin can not be there 24 / 7. Do we promise to answer everything? No. We certainly can’t do that – though we will try. In most cases you will be redirected to a possible solution. You can just watch or “idle”, but if you participate, help please don’t hinder the work going on there.

I have been trying to hold off on this post. We may soon have our own IRC network. Before I commit resources, I would like to see if it is worth investing the time & money. This will allow you to chat with Ultimate Edition devs & other UE users. We may not stay here, but I want to give all users the chance to see what it is all about. I am providing 2 options to get there, KVirc is an IRC client built into virtually all Ultimate Editions. You are not limited to using just KVirc, there is Xchat, and many others. Mirc for you windows users. If you wish to learn about IRC, information overkill can be read here. Specific Information on freenode here.

Option #1:
Open your terminal (Applications >> Accessories >> Terminal) & paste the following.

kvirc irc://irc.freenode.org/UltimateEdition

Option #2:
Web based chat.

Hopefully by Ultimate Edition’s 2.8 final release it will be defaulted, preset & fully customized UE style. I hope to catch you on there.

TheeMahn,
